Cheat Sheet: My favorite Culture Newsletters

It has been stated a lot lately that Newsletters are the new blogs: online spaces for intimate conversations. In a time where trolling became a nasty side effect of publishing thoughts, newsletters might feel safer, especially for women. It seems contradictory that in an age where the inbox zero becomes a productivity goal, newsletters are making a comeback against all odds. Here is a list of my favorite ones around culture. Minds that share their curious findings and have a passion for their topics.

As you already know from my previous Cheat Sheet of Podcasts for Art and Culture Lovers I am kind of obsessed with the format of podcasts. Unfortunately, some institutions and museums use apps for the sake of appearing tech-savvy and use the app as a mobile website version. In this cases one should really save the money for the development. What does an app need to be valuable? Find some thoughts and examples.

I am a real podcast-nerd-in-chief. It is the perfect format for everyone who commutes a lot, a nice alternative for a long run or the best thing to take with you into the shower or bath (it doesn't get wet like a book, unless you drop the speakers, so put them in a careful distance!). Art and culture has to do a lot with storytelling and I think this draws me to the podcast format. If you start listen to podcasts you will notice that the formats differ from interviewer, topic and aim. Some episodes are short and want to inspire or give fresh authentic insights on personal views, others are longform podcasts and need their time to develop a conversation.

Here is a selection of the podcasts I listen to and some recommendations of my favorite episodes. I would love if you'd share your favorite ones in the comments.

Anabel Roque Rodriguez

Anabel Roque Rodríguez is a curator, writer and art historian based in Switzerland and Germany, but open to travel to other areas. She is interested in the relation of art to the public and site specific conditions. She works within the realm of contemporary art with strong roots in its historic past. To understand an development, one has to situate it retrospective. Her focus includes political art, the artist as activist, art as labor, feminism, photography and the art market.

I use this little online home to share thoughts and exchanges that are usually hidden in my notebooks or that are shared with friends over a cup of coffee.

In Short: I'm an Art Historian with an opinion and the strong belief that Humanities and facts matter.
